Your child has been given three workbooks…a green Performance Assessment workbook, a black and red Close Reader workbook, and a pink Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics workbook. These workbooks will be used for homework and class work. The students have been asked to keep these books in their schoolbags at all times.
The students receive homework assignments several times a week. I generally have the assignments written on the board when they walk into the classroom. After they have finished their DO NOW, they are to take out their agendas or a notebook and write down the homework assignment for the night. I check homework the following day. Students are not given extra time for homework if the work is not completed or if they leave their homework at home. Those assignment are part of their participation grade.
The students have been receiving a list of spelling/vocabulary words every Friday. The work for spelling/vocabulary is due on the following Friday. This gives them the weekend and their entire work week to complete their activities. For the spelling/vocabulary homework, they must write each work five times, write a sentence with each word, and the words with the stars must have definitions. On Friday at the end of the week, the students will be asked to staple and place their work on my printer.
Sometimes the students will have homework added to the list as we address skills in the class. The students may need additional practice with what is covered in class. So be mindful that this wiki is a rough blueprint of what is due for homework, but they may have more added as I see the need arises after a lesson.
