7th and 8th grade science
Week 11/13 – 11/17
We are continuing with food webs and will be discussing predator/prey relationship. Our project will be done in class. Students will create a food web and make a graphic display. Friday will be a fun day and our school Fall Fest. Have a great Thanksgiving break.
We are continuing with natural disasters and hazards. Students will have a project due on Friday before break. they must select one natural disaster and write a one page paper in the style of their choice including a graphic display. We will talk about tornadoes and volcanoes in more detail.
Week 11/6 – 11/10
7th Grade – We have concluded our unit cells. We are now moving into ecology and ecosystems. Food webs and Biological communities will be studied. The students will have a project to work on later this week. Homework due Monday or Tuesday is to complete pages 486-495 in the 7th grade text book.
8th Grade – We have concluded our unit on Geologic Time and Fossils. We are now moving into learning about natural disasters. We will use the information we learned about weather and geologic processes to closely examine natural disasters, their predictability, and how we can be better prepared when they happen. Homework for the weekend of 11/10 is to write a paragraph essay. Classes were given a question to answer on catastrophic events.
10/6 continues through 10/13
Cell unit continues. Students will manipulate a microscope and learn the parts of the microscope. We will then investigate the cell in detail. We will learn about the organelles in the cell and their functions.
Project: “Cells R Us” Students will construct a model of a cell, explain the organelles functions, explain diffusion and osmosis, and cell respiration.
The instructions and rubric can be found in the document below. Students may use their textbooks as guides. Homework assignments due this week are Ch 4 pgs. 120 – 129 and pgs 130 – 139. A take home quiz was given on 10/2 and 10/3 that is due back 10/4 and 10/5.
Update: Very few students turned in their quiz. It is crucial that all students complete the Cells R Us project. The instructions and rubric are the link below. This project is a major assessment grade.
Update for 10/9 – 10/13: We will continue with Earth’s processes. A major assessment on the rock cycle, weathering and erosion, Earth’s interior, earth’s processes with emphasis on slow and fast time and scale will be given at the end of the week. The 9 weeks ends 10/13. I will get a study guide up soon but most handouts and resources can be found below.
Students are studying weathering, erosion, rocks, and Earth’s interior. The 8th Grade project on the Rock Cycle Game is due 10/4 and 10/5. The project is a major assessment grade. A quiz on weathering, erosion, and Earth’s interior will also be given this week.

Beginning new lesson on life and cells. Attachments of study guides, worksheets, and Powerpoints are attached below. The students will have a cell project for this unit. The guidelines will be posted when they are finalized.
Beginning a new lesson on the Rock Cycle. Students will have a project for this unit. They will create a cartoon or a story with illustration based on the journey through the rock cycle during the Rock Cycle Game. I will be adding more resources as they are added to the lesson.
Unit test on Water Cycle, Air Masses, Fronts, Weather, Ocean Currents, and Coriolis effect will be given Friday, Sept. 22 and Monday Sept 25. Grades will be posted by week’s end.
