Minor Test Grade Update (08/14)
Students received two (2) minor test grades today, August 14th, for completing worksheets on how to read music on both the treble and bass clef staves.
This week, students will be learning how to read music. Students will also try out and pick what instrument they will be playing for the 2018-2019 school year. Students will receive the paperwork necessary to sign out a school instrument by the end of the week. Students should strive to have all of their school supplies by Monday to be ready for class activities.
Homework for the entire school year: Students should practice their instrument for 30 MINUTES every night, including nights that they don’t have band as a class and weekends. Parents, if your students are not bringing their instruments home then they cannot be doing their homework. Please encourage your students to practice so that they will get better quicker and be able to perform with the more advanced students. Other assignments will be posted as they are given to the students.
Tutoring: Tutoring sessions are held Mondays after school until 4:00pm. Parents, please make sure to pick your students up on time or arrange for them to carpool with someone else. Students may using tutoring time for the following things:
- Receive additional help on troubling music theory concepts.
- Receive additional help on notes and rhythms when playing their instrument.
- Extra time to practice their instruments and music being worked on in class and at rehearsals.
Please note: Should a student be disruptive during rehearsal time, they may be asked to leave the tutoring session early. In this event, the parent/guardian will be notified that their child has been made to leave early.
Rehearsals: Currently, beginner students do not need to attend rehearsals, as they are just learning how to play their instruments. Further notice will be sent when beginner band students will be invited to begin attending rehearsals.
Supplies: The following supplies are needed every single day in class. The students need these supplies in order to succeed.
- Essential Elements Book 1 for the child’s instrument
- Supplies for their instrument (reeds, valve oil, drum sticks, etc.)
- Flip folder and lyre (only if student plans to march)
Band Fee: There is a band fee of $40. This band fee helps to purchase new music for the students to perform at concerts, football games, parades, and other events, as well as helps to pay for transportation to get to the performance venues. In addition, the band fee helps to get the instruments cleaned in the summer so that they can be working properly and used the next year. If a student’s band fee is not paid, he/she will not be allowed to perform with the band.
